Balance - How Can I Find It?

We all go through times where we feel others are better than us. Everyone else seems to do better at school than you, seem to get perfect scores at tests, maintain a social life and be -- what's the word? Ah --  be "balanced".

Everyone has a particular skill set. Some are all-rounders, and some, like me, struggle to even keep up with lessons. I've seen students talented in every area possible - managing all their prefect duties, playing a sport, scoring high, singing and dancing for events, doing other extracurriculars, and I'd think "I don't do everything like them, maybe I'm not good enough, I'm probably useless..." and I was wrong.

So for anyone feeling the same way as me, I'd like to say a few things on that.

First, find your capacity and what takes first place in your life. Not every person is the same, and you won't be able to do what the person next to you is doing, because it's not your thing, or you don't have time for it. For example, I love volleyball, and my parents were good at the game in their days, so I wanted to pursue it badly. However, I didn't have the luxury of time, I just had enough time to cope with all my tests and exams, which were my top priority. Does this mean I'm not balanced, or good enough?

Absolutely not.

There are many things that I want to do but can't cuz it's not in my capacity.

Second, don't overwork yourself. Maybe you could be good at a lot of things but you don't need to do everything beyond your limit to be called a balanced person. Managing 10 activities a day while running on just 4 hours of sleep fuel isn't what I call "balanced". A lot of all-rounders seem to have everything under control. That's what you think. Not everyone has everything under control - they're making sacrifices and fighting their battles too, sometimes at the price of their health.

Your balance is found when you enjoy doing what you love AND feel good and healthy through it all. So don't fret over it.

So don't think the same way as I once thought. Stop looking down on yourself - you don't belong 'down'.

Just remember- It's not how many things you do, it's how well you do something that really counts.

I’ve come to realize what defines me as a balanced person in society. I know what I love doing, and I know my capacity.

What’s yours?
